You learn something new every day,
right? One of the things that really caught me off guard this week was a little
tid-bit of information about using “buena” as an adjective. I was unaware of it
being used as “sexy” when using the verb “es.” I don’t think I’ve ever made the
mistake of using this by accident, but it should help my understanding in the
future, at least when reading, if not while talking with someone. Another word
that I personally need to work on a lot more is “quedarse.” I’m really weak on
being able to use it, and even weaker in understanding what it means. It seems
like a simple word, but it gives me more trouble than any word that comes to
mind. It’s one of those words that I cannot translate, but instead I’ll have to
learn it through feeling and practice.
I’ve started doing something a
little different with my Goodwill group that’s learning English, and I think
it’d be at least a little relevant to talk about it here. We’ve started reading
a story, Alice in Wonderland, to expand pronunciation by example and reading
aloud, as well as beginning some past-tense practice. I never realized how much
vocabulary is in a fantasy story that I don’t know, and I’m a fantasy nerd! It
made me think that maybe I need to start researching vocabulary that’s relevant
to what I usually talk about. Runes, magic, abstract concepts and ideas; I
don’t know how to talk about all of these in Spanish as well as I would like. I
would practice with my friends, but all of the people that I talk to about
these things aren’t in Spanish. Maybe I need to start writing little short
stories in Spanish for practice, or maybe even get a little collection going. It could be fun.
Decidí en escribir sobre un personaje que he tenido en mi cabeza para
algunos meses. Un grupo de mis amigos y yo decidimos jugar D&D juntos, y
necesitábamos crear nuestros personajes. Porque soy el maestro del juego, no
tengo un personaje, entonces he ayudado mis amigos con suyos, especialmente
porque me encanta crear personajes. Mi amigo Jetta tenía problemas con una
historia para su personaje, y como cabe en el cuento. Necesitaba ayudarle,
crear un cuento y dar una razón por su personaje estar en la ciudad de
Quarritón. También, yo necesitaba un cuento para la clase de español. Entonces,
empecé a escribir su cuento en español, y desarrollar las características de
él. Lo más difícil fue crear su nombre. Siempre tomo horas en crear el nombre
de un personaje, y este no era una excepción. Decidí en Gadhoil, que se
pronuncia como Gádho-il. Después de eso, el cuento seguía fácil. No tenía
ayuda de mi revisor.
Leí el cuento de Tee, sobre un chico joven del pueblo que se llama “La
Sordina”. Hay muchas reglas en la ciudad, y él decide a romper algunos. Después
de eso, rompe su rodada completamente. Toma rutas nuevas, descubre colores
diferentes, y oye sonidos extrañas. Trata de convencer su familia a
despertarse, pero ellos no escuchan. Alguien le acerca, y dice que a otra
ciudad, que se llama “Utopia,” y pueden ir ahí para escapar. Él va, y la ciudad
nueva tiene avances tecnológicas grandísimas.
Me encanta el simbolismo, y como la mayoría del cuento es análogo a la vida
actual, y como la gente cierra la mente de lo nuevo, y no pueden ver afuera de
sus rutas. También, lo deja abierto, y quiero leer el resto. ¿Cómo actúa él?
¿Salva su pueblo viejo? ¿Trae solamente su familia? ¿Recrea “La Sordina” por
accidente en el futuro?
